About this Site: Who We Are

Maybe I need to start by telling you what this site and its editor are not about.

I'm not a literary expert.
I'm not a librarian.
I'm not even an English major.

I'm just a person who loves to read, belongs to a book club, and is looking for ideas.

I've spent the last 18 years of my life editing statistical reference books for the small business that my husband and I founded, Morgan Quitno Press. We probably are best known for naming the Most Dangerous City and Smartest State each year. (My continued apologies to our relatives in Detroit and congratulations to those of you who live in Massachusetts.)

I can honestly say that I did not have a childhood dream of churning out books full of tables that report which state's chickens lay the most eggs (Iowa) and which state's senior citizens have lost the fewest teeth (Hawaii.) While I am grateful that my editing career has paid the bills and given me time with our three children, it's time for something new.

And that something new is whatareyoureading.com.

This idea has been cooking in my head for a few years now. It all started because once each year I have the responsibility of choosing the book for my book club. Such pressure! Inevitably, I find my best ideas from family and friends in other book clubs by asking, "What are you reading?"

The goal of this site is to provide a central place on the web where book club members can share their reading lists and weigh in on which books are best (and worst) for discussion. I pledge to keep it simple and most importantly, keep it fun.

After all, isn't that what book clubs are all about?
